Just the Facts

Wondering if adopting an Electronic Health Record (EHR) software is a requirement?.  The answer is NO.  However, this has not stopped many DCs from thinking they must.

The Truth of the Matter

  • There are NO mandated requirements set forth by CMS stating that chiropractors must implement EHR software. More details can be found on the CMS website directly by clicking here.

  • You will not be penalized for electing not to utilize an EHR system which demonstrates meaningful use.  What you can expect to see is a minimal payment reduction of only mere cents per adjustment.

  • While adopting EHR is not currently a requirement, it is wise to consider that there are indications of other payers who may begin implementing this practice.

  • The same documentation requirements exist for both paper and EHR; one option is no more (or less) compliant than the other.

These are the facts. Now you decide: Is Transition Worth the Trouble?
